Once you’ve designed your website and have carried out all of the usual SEO activities, it’s time to focus on establishing yourself as an authority in your niche.This can be achieved by getting links back to your site from respected sites in your niche. Think of each link back to your site as a vote in your favour, the more quality links that you have, the better the placement your website receives in the Search engine results. If you have concentrated on creating unique and quality content then you can expect to rank highly and therefore get more exposure and hopefully large amounts of free traffic. If you’re new to Internet marketing or have just launched your first website than this information will be of benefit to you. If you have a lot of money to invest in advertising and can afford to run an adwords, abrite or Yahoo campaign then this will not be as important to you.

Google assesses your website’s authority based upon the amount of relevant inbound links pointing towards it. Google will then give your site ranking based upon these factors. If your site has incoming links from quality websites then Google is likely to give your site a good ranking, hopefully you’ll get on the first page for your keyword term and then you should see a steady flow of traffic to your website.
So how do I get these back links to your site? Well a good start in my experience, is to search for forums and blogs in the niche that you’re interested in. This can be done easily by typing forum “keyword” or blog “internet marketing” into Google’s search box.  This simple search technique will reveal many places for you to find back links and by joining the forums, using a signature file which points back to your website and by contributing in each community you will start getting back links and interested visitors. It’s the same with posting on blogs, you make useful comments with a back link to your site and hopefully your comments will be approved.
Another way is by writing articles for article directories, ezinearticles for example, can get your blog or website a lot of publicity and can help you rank for your keyword terms.
Answer based sites like Yahoo! answers are another way of quickly building backlinks to your site, and you can instantly generate traffic to your website or blog.

You can also use blogs and forums for your self promotion. Basically, you make a comment and put a backlink in it. Same works for forums, but then you can put backlink in your signature.
